BarokOpera Amsterdam — Dido & Aeneas
Live broadcast of BarokOpera Amsterdam's production of "Dido & Aeneas" (1689) by Henry Purcell, performed at the Posthuis Theater in Heerenveen. The production, subtitled "Liefde & Hel" (Love & Hell), continued beyond Purcell's original opera with music by Lully, Händel and Rameau — following Aeneas on his journey after leaving Dido, through the Underworld and into Italy.
Artistic director Frédérique Chauvet led the ensemble, with direction by Sybrand van der Werf. The cast included sopranos Wendy Roobol and Caroline Cartens as Dido, countertenor Jan Kullman, and tenors Mattijs Hoogendijk and Joost van Velzen as Aeneas.
A rich, full-length opera broadcast with baroque ensemble.
